Hundreds of excited shoppers flocked to Ravenhead Retail Park today (Thursday 14th March) to be the first through the doors at the opening of the brand-new M&S St Helens store.

The first 200 customers in the queue that stretched around the building were rewarded with golden tickets, offering a range of ‘spend today’ vouchers, worth between £5 and £200. They also had the chance to see Saints Rugby legend Paul Sculthorpe and loyal customer Patricia Pennington, Johnny Vegas’ Mum, cut the ribbon with the M&S team.

M&S colleagues, along with special guest Percy Pig, welcomed shoppers into the new two-floor 40,000 sq. ft store as the St Helens Salvation Army brass band played. Throughout the day M&S colleagues showcased the larger Clothing departments, and customers enjoyed a visit to the Foodhall which is home to some of the store’s 5,000 quality food and drink products.

The new store is the flagship M&S opening in the North West this year and, as well as an improved Clothing & Home offer, it has brought an M&S café to the town for the first time.

Customer Louise Hampson from St Helens said: “I’ve had a lovely morning at the opening of the new store and I’m so impressed by how proactive store colleagues have been – they’ve taken us to the products we’ve asked about and have been very attentive. I knew it was going to be bigger, but I didn’t expect it to be such a nice experience and the Café is such a great asset. It means that we’ve got somewhere to enjoy a cuppa while we’re shopping or if we just want to get out for lunch as a family”.

Lucy Grimes, Store Manager, said: “The team has been working incredibly hard to get our bigger and better store ready for the grand opening, so it was brilliant to see such a fantastic turn out and the local community enjoying all M&S has to offer. I’ve especially enjoyed welcoming familiar faces who have shopped with us in St Helens for many years, excited to try out the new Café, as well as new customers who have already given such positive feedback about their experience with us. It was fantastic to see so many parents and tots enjoying being entertained by Percy too! We’re looking forward to being part of the community at Ravenhead Retail Park.”

M&S St Helens offers thousands of products across Food and Clothing & Home. Products on offer in-store this week include:

M&S’s Church Street store, which served customers for 90 years, closed on Saturday 2nd March. The whole team has moved over to the new store, using the few days in-between to put the finishing touches on the Ravenhead Retail Park store. When customers order products on M&S.com they will be able to opt for next day pick up and the store will also offer hassle free returns.

With over 1,300 free car parking spaces, the store will be ideal for browsing the latest Clothing & Home ranges, enjoying a coffee and cake with friends or picking up food essentials and innovations.

The store is located at Ravenhead Retail Park, Milverny Way, Saint Helens, WA9 1JF, and is open Monday – Saturday, 8am – 8pm, and Sunday, 10am – 4pm.
